Counseling is easy when you love people. I think they are so interesting and even fascinating. Not just what they do, but what they think, what they feel, what they don’t feel, and a million other things. My other great love is “stories.” Reading is my favorite hobby, and what I love most is reading fiction. Listening to someone’s account of life and how they’ve interpreted their experiences never grows old to me. I get such a charge from how we all can be so unique and truly different but yet, so very similar at the core of things.
I have always been an optimistic and non-judgmental person. This helped me heal from my own trauma and may also be a reason why people tend to feel really comfortable with me in sessions. I believe that every one of us is just trying to cope the best we can. Some of the ways we might have learned to cope aren’t “super-healthy,” but they have served to help us survive when we may not have had the resources we needed. The most important thing is this: however it had to happen, you SURVIVED. It may not have been a “pretty” process, but that doesn’t matter. All that counts is that you made it to TODAY.
If you are reading this now, you ARE the survivor that I wrote this for. And you deserve the peace that has eluded you, up to this point. You will not regret any time, effort, or money that you put into healing your mind and soul. How you look at yourself and the choices you’ve made colors EVERYTHING else you experience in the world. I know this firsthand. There is nothing more worthwhile you will ever do than committing to heal. This is the key to unlocking the cell that trauma locked you within–take that key and USE IT.
